Change in the scientific council of EEGA

After many years of dedicated participation in the EEGA’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), Prof. Judith Pallot is leaving the committee and handing over the task to a next generation.

Judith Pallot is Professor Emeritus of the University of Oxford and Honorary Research Fellow in Russian and East European Centre of the University Department of Interdisciplinary Area Studies. She is also a member of Christ Church (college) and Research Director at Aleksanteri Institute – Finnish Centre for Russian and East European Studies in Helsinki. After being appointed at Oxford from a lectureship in the University of Leeds, she became responsible for developing teaching and research in the human geography Soviet Union and Russia. Throughout her career Professor Pallot has worked hard to develop links with colleagues in the USSR and its successor states. In the late 1980s, she established an exchange programme for Geographers in the USSR to come to Oxford and she was also actively involved in early postgraduate programmes for graduates in the humanities and social sciences to become visiting students at the University of Oxford. Until 2019, she was President of the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies (BASEES).

We thank Judith Pallot for her interest, her watchful eye, her good advice, and her irreplaceable insights – the Leibniz ScienceCampus EEGA and its members have benefited greatly from her professional experience and wisdom. At the same time, we look forward to the successor, who will carry on the affairs, to be announced here soon.

Professor Pallot, we wish you all the best!
