Call for Contributions: Was bleibt? Erinnerung in Ost- und Südosteuropa

The process of coming to terms with the past shapes societies and identities, it finds its way into literature, art and everyday culture, into education and research. More than 30 years after Fukuyama’s „End of History“ and against the backdrop of fundamental transformation in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, the question arises:

How do we remember and what is transported into the present? What remains?

The interdisciplinary student conference „Was bleibt? Erinnerung in Ost- und Südosteuropa“ of the departments of Slavic Studies and Eastern European History of the JGU Mainz, in cooperation with DGO, would like to facilitate an exchange between students of different disciplines on the 22 and 23 September 2023 and thereby enrich the current view of Eastern and Southeastern Europe with the perspective of junior researchers.

BA, MA and beginning doctorate students from the fields of humanities, cultural and social studies are invited to give a 15 minute presentation in German or English.

The call for contributions closes on May 31, 2023. Please submit your proposals (up to 300 words) including your name, presentation title and a short biography to studitagung.oe2023@uni-mainz.de.
