Research project: Geography of Migration and Diaspora from Eastern Europe

Dorin Lozovanu holds a PhD in Human Geography from the ”Al. I. Cuza” University of Iași, Romania, with the distinction Magna Cum Laude, for his research contribution on Romanian-speaking communities in South-Eastern Europe. He is specialized in the field of Population Geography and concentrates on Ethnic, Linguistic and Religious diversity, as well as Migration and Diasporas.
Dorin Lozovanu is a senior researcher at the Institute of Ecology and Geography in Moldova, leading researcher at the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History of Moldova, and Associate Professor at the State University ”D. Cantemir”, Tiraspol State University and Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts of Moldova. Dorin Lozovanu was visiting researcher and invited professor at several institutions and universities in Austria, Germany, Denmark, Russian Federation, Serbia, Greece, Italy, Armenia, Czechia, Poland, Turkey, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Tonga. He is also president of the Association of Geography and Ethnology of Moldova and academician of Chuvash National Academy of Sciences and Arts.

During his stay at EEGA he focused on the subject of Geography of Migration and Diaspora from Eastern Europe, conducting case studies in Moldova and Romania. The project focuses on the migration and formation of ethnic / diaspora communities between and inside Eastern European countries, in the rest of Europe and worldwide. It is based on a variety of official sources, documentation and field work,  and includes geographical, demographic, sociological and anthropologic methods. Dorin Lozovanu gained experience in this field of research doing field research for his PhD in all countries of South-Eastern Europe. He now profits from a personal network with specialized institutions in the region.
