By plane

Via the air transportation hubs at Frankfurt / Main, Munich, Düsseldorf, Cologne/ Bonn, Vienna and Istanbul, Leipzig is easily reachable from all international airports. Direct domestic flights to the metropolitan areas of Düsseldorf, Cologne / Bonn, Frankfurt / Main, Stuttgart, Nuremberg und Munich are available on an almost daily basis. Leipzig/Halle Airport can easily be reached by car or public transport. Take the S5 or S5X lines of the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland to Leipzig’s Central Station.

If you land elsewhere in Germany, you can easily reach Leipzig by train, bus or car. Frankfurt is about 300 km from Leipzig, Berlin is only about 150 km away. Munich is about 430km away.

By train

Located directly in the city center of Leipzig, Leipzig Central Station is traditionally one of the most important junctions in the German rail network. With the ICE, IC, EC, CityNightLine and DB night train Leipzig offers good and fast travel options in long-distance transport. Direct ICE lines run from Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Erfurt, Munich, Nuremberg and Dresden to Leipzig every hour.

By car

With its proximity to highways A9 (Berlin – Munich), A14 (Dresden – Magdeburg – Hanover) and A38 (Leipzig-Göttingen), Leipzig is a central point on the national highway network. Leipzig’s city districts can be reached directly from the highway exits.

By bus

Flixbus and BlaBlaBus offer scheduled bus connections from Leipzig to many destinations in Germany. Destinations such as Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, Munich and so on can be reached using the long-distance bus network. Numerous bus stops allowing passengers to embark and disembark along the various routes form a comprehensive network across the country.

Public transport

Urban public transport is characterized by a dense tram network and various bus lines, which primarily serve the city districts. Tickets for rail transport and busses follow a common price schedule, whether in trams, busses, S-Bahn trains, regional express trains, regional trains or public on-demand taxis. You can buy tickets at various stops, on the bus, on the train or in the tram as well as online.

In Case of Emergency

Call 110 for the police and 112 for the fire brigade and rescue service. For urgent medical treatment, you can also immediately go to any hospital’s emergency room or accident and emergency department (A&E), which are called Notaufnahme.
