The British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies (BASEES) invites proposals for panels and roundtables, and papers for its 2023 annual conference. BASEES 2023 is being planned to be held in-person from the 31st of March to the 2nd of April and will be hosted at the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, a leading international centre for the study of Central and Eastern Europe and home to the journal Europe-Asia Studies (https://www.gla.ac.uk/schools/socialpolitical/research/cees/). The conference will also welcome remote attendees. The 2022 conference welcomed over 500 delegates from over 40 countries around the world.

The deadline for paper and panel/roundtable proposals is extended to 23 October 2022. To propose a panel or a paper you will need to fill in the electronic proposal form on the conference website. The submission platform will open in late July. For more information and paper/panel/roundtable submission, please check the BASEES conference website.

BASEES welcomes paper, panel and roundtable proposals in the following areas: Politics; History; Sociology and Geography; Film and Media, Languages and Linguistics; Literatures and Cultures; and Economics. In the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine, we particularly welcome proposals that help to push forward the work to decentralise and decolonise the study of the former ‘communist bloc’ of the Soviet Union, Central and Eastern Europe and Asia.

The Leibniz ScienceCampus „Eastern Europe – Global Area (EEGA) awards travel grants for participants of international panels (up to 750 € p. p.) for paper presentations with relation to EEGA’s main themes and research agenda.

After succesful application at BASEES 2023 with the paper, panel or roundtable proposal, continuative applications for such travel subsidies can be handed in to leibniz-eega@leibniz-ifl.de until 15 January 2023, incl. name, institution, paper/panel abstract, and letter of acceptance. Travel grants will be awarded by the EEGA Steering Commitee in early 2023.
